Saskatchewan Sport Awards Recipients and Finalists Announced

Sask Sport has announced the nominees for the 41st annual Saskatchewan Sport Awards and the three nominees for Coach of the Year are Mary Carroll, Hazem Hussein and Lisa Thomaidis.

In 2025, Carroll guided multiple athletes between junior and senior divisions to podium finishes at national and international events. Hussein coached numerous swimmers to claim medals at provincial and national competitions, as well as coached athlete Ali Diehl to top-five and medal finishes on the World Para Swimming Championship circuit. While Thomaidis became the winningest coach in Canada West women’s basketball history while leading the University of Saskatchewan Huskie women’s basketball team to claim the U SPORTS national championship and the Canada West title.

Honouring their decades of guidance and impact across various areas of the amateur sport community, Melissa Lock (Handball), Mark Lord (Soccer), David Wassill (Adaptive waterski) and Harvey Weber (Athletics) will receive Coach Dedication Awards for their 10 plus years of giving back in their sport.

The annual program celebrates the success and dedication of those in the province’s amateur sport community through two categories – Excellence Awards and Recognition Awards. The six Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding event performances or a series of performances by a Saskatchewan athlete, coach or team within a given calendar year, while the three Recognition Awards honour individuals who have devoted their time and effort to the growth of sport in Saskatchewan.

The 41st Saskatchewan Sport Awards will be celebrated with a gala on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Queensbury Convention Centre in Regina. The gala will honour the nine Recognition Awards recipients, as well as announce the recipients of the six Excellence Awards and celebrate those named as finalists.

The Coaches Association of Saskatchewan congratulates all finalists and recipients.

Tickets are available for purchase on the Sask Sport website.

The Saskatchewan Sport Awards will also be available for viewing live on Sask Sport’s YouTube and on SaskTel maxTV Local on Demand at a later date.
