The Coaches Association of Saskatchewan will be hosting Community Coaches Day on Sunday, January 18, 2026 in partnership with the Prairie Central, Lakeland and Rivers West Districts for Sport, Culture and Recreation and the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan

The free event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Martensville Recreation Centre and will feature a day full of networking and learning from Saskatchewan coaches and other sport experts. Those who attend will also receive three Professional Development points.

Presentation Topics

  • Concussions – Rhonda Shishkin (Sport Physiotherapist, Certified Athletic Therapist, High Performance Practitioner)
  • Nutrition – Leland Guillemin, B.Sc. Nutrition (Registered Dietitian, Sport Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan)
  • Safe Sport – Nathan Cole (Provincial Sport Consultant, Sask Sport)
  • Rural Program Development – Kia Schollar (High-Performance Sport Manager, Sask Sport)

Session 1 (Concussion – Prevention and Recovery) Concussion awareness is a critical responsibility for every community coach. This session will provide practical guidance on how to recognize the signs and symptoms of concussion, respond appropriately when an injury occurs, and support safe return-to-play decisions. Coaches will leave with increased confidence to protect athlete wellbeing and apply best-practice concussion protocols in a community sport setting.  

Session 2 (Nutrition – Fuelling Performance and Wellbeing) Good nutrition supports performance, recovery, and long-term health for athletes at all levels. Designed with community sport in mind, the session will equip coaches with simple, realistic strategies to help athletes and families make informed nutrition choices. 

Session 3 (Safe Sport – Boundary Setting) Creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive sport environment starts with clear boundaries. This session focuses on understanding professional coach–athlete relationships, recognizing boundary concerns, and responding to situations with confidence and professionalism. Coaches will gain practical tools to uphold Safe Sport principles and foster a culture of trust, respect, and accountability. 

Session 4 (Rural Program Development) Rural and regional communities face distinct challenges and opportunities in delivering sport. By exploring practical strategies to develop, sustain, and grow sport programs, this community-driven ideation session will equip participants with at least one actionable takeaway they can implement within their local community.
