Celebrate Coaches Week in Saskatchewan

Hey, Saskatchewan, it’s time to say, “Thanks Coach!”

In support of the Coaches Association of Saskatchewan and National Coaches Week, the Government of Saskatchewan proclaimed September 15 to 21, 2025 as Coaches Week in the province.

This week-long event celebrates the dedication coaches have to their role and promotes the positive impact they have on athletes and communities. With many coaches operating as volunteers and committing on average more than 120 hours each year to Canadian sport, the week also provides a simple way to say thank you to these integral leaders. The Coaches Association of Canada coined the term “Thanks Coach” to show appreciation.

“Coaches play a vital role in helping to build and shape tomorrow’s leaders,” Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Alana Ross said. “Coaching is one of the most demanding and rewarding jobs someone can have. Their motivation and encouragement help bring out the best in their players. Many of the lessons they teach these athletes will stay with them for the rest of their lives and for that we say Thanks Coach!”

Today, more than 20,000 trained coaches work with registered participants in Saskatchewan on different local teams, clubs and leagues. Across Canada, more than 1.8 million Canadians have received coach training and one in seven Canadians will coach at some point in their lives.

“I’ve seen and felt firsthand the impact of coaches and I was inspired to start my own coaching journey 24 years ago because I wanted to share with others the reward of sport and its community,” said Andrea Wolf, Chair of the Coaches Association of Saskatchewan. “Coaches allow athletes to develop and challenge themselves in a safe space, creating those building blocks that will form the foundation of their future. Saskatchewan coaches know sport is more than wins and losses and their effort to ensure athletes continue to benefit through sport does not go unnoticed. Thanks Coach!”
