Barthel named Canada's head coach
Congratulations to Greg Barthel, the head coach of the University of Regina Cougars men's volleyball team, who has been named the head coach of Canada's junior men's national team. The team is scheduled to compete in the NORCECA junior men's continental championship Aug. 16-21 in Gatineau, Quebec. The top two finishers at the tournament earn an automatic berth in the 2011 junior world championship
Howald to Coach National under-18 Team
Congratulations to Sarah Howald, the head coach of the University of Regina Cougars women's hockey team, who has recently been named the head coach of Hockey Canada's national under-18 women's team. Howland has been the Cougars' head coach for 12 years. She will be Canada's head coach for a three-game series against the United States from Aug. 18-21 in Lake Placid, N.Y., and will also lead the team in defence of its gold medal at the 2011 IIHF world women's under-18 championship in Sweden.
The Watrous Manitou wins Best Local Coach Story Contest
The Coaches Association of Saskatchewan is pleased to announce that The Watrous Manitou is the winner of the Saskatchewan Coaches Week – Best Local Coach Story Contest. The winning story was titled: Grabbing Hold of Opportunity to Coach written by Daniel Bushman. The Watrous Manitou was presented a cheque for $500 for winning the contest and graciously donated $250 to the local Judo club to support coach education. The Sask Weekly Newspapers were invited to participate in the contest as part of the 2010 Coaches Week activities in Saskatchewan. Thank you to all those that participated.

Huskies coaching trio go national
Thomaidis, Lavallee, Schellenberg to coach various national basketball teams

Three basketball coaches with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies are about to stand on guard for thee. Lisa Thomaidis and Jacqueline Lavallee from the U of S women's program, along with Nathan Schellenberg from Huskies men's hoops, are set to begin summer stints with Canada Basketball's national program.

The Saskatchewan Coaches Conference held in Saskatoon on May 28-30 was a huge success with over 140 coaches participating. Saskatchewan Olympians, Hayley Wickenheiser and Lucas Makowsky were a hit. 3 plenary and 25 breakout sessions were delivered over the 3 day conference. The feedback received from delegates was very positive.
Women in Coaching NCI Scholarship Program for 2010-2011
Only those candidates whose completed portfolios are received by Wednesday, July 15, 2010 will be considered for scholarships.

National Team Coaching Apprenticeship Program Graduate Promoted by Athletics Canada
Carla Nicholls of Regina, a graduate of the Coaching Association of Canada's (CAC) National Team Coaching Apprenticeship Program (NTAP), has been promoted to the position of National Talent Development Coach for Athletics Canada's Olympic Program. She remains responsible for the organization's Women in Coaching initiatives and continues as National Event Group Coach for Combined Events, Jumps, and Hurdles. She is also Canada's head coach at the 2010 world junior championships slated to take place in Moncton, N.B., in July.

Congratulations to the Saskatchewan Coaching Award Recipients

The Saskatchewan Sport Awards Banquet was held on March 25th in Regina. All three of these individuals have made outstanding contributions to their athletes as well as their sport through coaching. Congratulations to John, Laurie and Dale!
